After Tummy Tuck Stretch Mark Removal
When women’s body start growing during pregnancy, the skin stretch and may notices some lines which are called stretch marks. Here are some alternatives for removing stretch marks…
As your body grows to accommodate your baby, your skin must stretch. If you are like about half of all pregnant women, you may start to notice lines on your breasts and belly. These lines, which are called stretch marks, are actually tiny scars caused by the skin stretching out so fast that it tears beneath the surface layer. Women who have very fair or very dark skin are the most inclined to develop visible stretch marks.
Stretch marks usually appear as reddish-purple, slightly depressed lines in the skin. Fortunately, they will spontaneously improve in appearance as the reddish color fades. They eventually return to a normal skin color, although they do remain depressed. They most often appear on the abdomen but other areas of skin that stretch during pregnancy, such as the breasts, hips, flanks, buttocks, upper arms and thighs are also susceptible to stretch marks. This cannot be helped as we pile on the pounds with each passing trimester. Higher levels of hormones also disrupt our skin’s protein balance, making it thinner than usual.
The resulting scars are permanent but some women do notice that their stretch marks fade to a certain extent and become less noticeable alter they give birth.
Although stretch marks are a fact of pregnancy, some expectant mums are lucky to have more elastic skin so they do not experience them at all.
Stretch marks cannot be prevented but they can be minimized by the following precautionary measures:

- Avoid sudden or excessive weight gain. Starting a gentle and sensible exercise regime may help you tone up your underlying muscles and improve your overall appearance. Good eating habits throughout your pregnancy can also prevent you from putting on excessive weight which can exaggerate stretch marks.
- Constant application of massaging creams, oils or lotions will help the skin feel suppler although, again, they do not prevent stretch marks from occurring. With time, the lines face to fine streaks closer to your own skin color. .
- If stretch marks are of recent onset, laser treatment can be effective. It produces improvement after only one or two treatments, even though additional treatments are sometimes required to obtain maximal results. The treatments were done with an excimer laser on women with stretch marks on their thighs, upper arms, or buttocks. Most patients had six to nine treatments, each lasting five to ten minutes. The stretch marks became less noticeable in all of the women, and the marks kept their repigmentation when they were checked after six months. However, the laser did not change the texture, indentations, or other aspects of stretch marks.
- Lasers such as the excimer laser, pulsed dye laser and the full or fractional resurfacing laser have been used by doctors to help fade stretch marks with varying degrees of success. A series of treatments may be required for visible results. As the pulsed dye laser reduces capillaries and inflammation from red stretch marks while stimulating collagen growth, it is most effective when used on early reddish or brownish stretch marks. Some doctors have used resurfacing laser to renew the affected skin and find that the appearance of stretch marks improves after a series of sessions. The excimer laser appears to be more effective for the repigmentation of older, white colored stretch marks, making them less noticeable after a series of treatments.
- Radiofrequency devices such as thermage may also help lessen the appearance of stretch marks. Such devices tighten loose, saggy abdominal skin in post-pregnancy women. Thermage procedure is an in-clinic treatment performed as a single session, and continuing improvements in the skin can be seen up to six months after one treatment.
- Surgery is the only way to successfully remove stretch marks. For example, a tummy tuck will remove stretch marks on the abdomen. Such surgery, however, leaves a scar.

Choosing The Right Tummy Tuck Surgeons For Your Tummy Tuck Procedure
As you ply along EDSA, you can’t help but notice these adorable people with well chiseled bodies and youthful physique on billboards. Most of the time too, they have this youthful fresh look and just this perfect combination of different facial features. It usually results from combination of religious work out, healthy diet and a basically ‘clean’ lifestyle. But some, if not most are unabashedly products of ‘modern science’ or what is popularly known as cosmetic plastic surgery.
Beauty or youthful look is something that we often desire and aspire for, that’s why a lot of people or company offers products or procedures that enhances our physical appearance. Most Cosmetic Plastic Surgeons believe that improving our physical appearance, make us feel good about ourselves or enhance our emotional well being and social acceptance. For some lucky people they are physically born with it and have maintained it through the years. And for a significantly increasing part of the population, they have opted to undergo a cosmetic procedure, to say the least.
Cosmetic Plastic Surgery has gone a long way locally and worldwide. Nowadays more and more people have thought of and accepted such procedures as Rhinoplasty (Nose Job), Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery/Eye bag Removal), Rhytidectomy (Face Lift), Liposuction just to name a few.
As simple and easy as it may seem (according to your Plastic Surgeons), there are very important things that one has to keep in mind before plunging into that pool of youth and beauty. Everybody wants to have that extra boost of self esteem and confidence and achieve that timeless beauty through the best possible post operative results with the least of complication.
Plastic Surgeons are appropriately and completely termed Plastic Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeons…, however they are now increasingly and popularly being called Plastic Cosmetic Surgeons. The surgeon can not call himself a plastic surgeon unless he can do both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Since the very root of almost all cosmetic/aesthetic procedures can be traced from early reconstructive procedure. Thus a surgeon whose main interest is aesthetic plastic surgery, must also have a firm foundation on the reconstructive surgery, to better grasp the basic principle and application of cosmetic/aesthetic plastic surgery. Reconstructive plastic surgery is a prerequisite in training for all plastic surgeons. So plastic surgeons are both an aesthetic/cosmetic surgeon and reconstructive surgeon. At present, there are just a relatively limited number of certified Plastic Surgeon that one can go to. However, the so called run of the mill cosmetic surgeons without adequate formal training and experience abound and are alarmingly increasing.

There are no short cuts to being one (Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon). It takes 6 to 8 years to transform a doctor after medical school into a Certified Plastic Surgeon (or 16 to 18 years to include Premed Course, Medicine Proper, Medical Internship, General Surgery Residency and Plastic Surgery Residency). It is through these years of formal training that Plastic Surgeons are able to acquire and equip themselves of the knowledge and skills that is required in his private practice. Such as knowing all possible options for a patient inquiring for a cosmetic procedure, being able to predict end result and being able to evaluate if patients are good candidate for the cosmetic procedure they want. And most importantly knowing the complications for any cosmetic and reconstructive procedure and being able to address if any complication arises.
So, if you have concerns on your looks and planning to have aesthetic or cosmetic enhancement of any part of your body. Planning to have a cosmetic plastic procedure and choosing the right surgeon are the major decisions you have to make. Your Surgeon should aim to provide safe and guaranteed results in the procedure they would offer you.
New Life Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Center, Located in Managed Care Medical Clinic, Ground Floor, Summit Tower 1 Bldg., Shaw Blvd., is a place patient can strongly consider. There you will find a group of fully trained, certified Plastic Surgeons performing beauty enhancing procedures all year round. The group is composed of Dr. Gil Fernandez, Dr. Hector Santos, Dr. James Joaquino, Dr. Edwin Del Rosario, Dr. Rino Lorenzo VII, Dr. Edwin Paul Magallona, Dr. Mark Sison, and the only female in the group Dr. Cristina Librojo.
Dr. Rino Lorenzo VII (you can read the complete discussion on http://www.philippineplastic.com) a member of the group, shares some tips on your decision-making.
1. Cosmetic Surgery should be done only according to the highest standards by the most competent surgeons.
2. Take time and effort in knowing your doctor’s academic profile and formal training in the field of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.
3. Determine if your surgeon has organizational affiliation and privileges in Plastic Surgery.
4. Take note if the outpatient facility is well equipped.
5. Don’t be encouraged to undergo the newest cosmetic product or procedure with out proven safety and result.
6. A good surgeon should be able to establish rapport with their patients, and is able to answer all your inquiries. And evaluate if all your questions or worries were answered adequately.
Dr. E Magallona ( http://www.magallonaplasticsurgery.com ) adds that patients should not hesitate to ask anything and everything about their concerns. This is clearly not a good time to be shy. It may take several visits, if necessary, to fully understand what you are getting into but it would definitely be worth your time when you get the bigger and better picture of things. Also understand that you cannot just pick out from any magazine a physical feature that you like and have it copied. Prospective patients should be aware that cosmetic plastic surgery will enhance your natural beauty. A perfect result is never guaranteed. Patients and Surgeons are but humans, however in the hands of a certified plastic surgeon, one is better off and in the best position of having very good and satisfying result.

The New Life group has its eyes on being of service not only in the local market but in the international scene as well especially in the United States. Medical tourism in Asia in general is thriving very well and the group plans to provide its significant share in the Philippines.
Dr. James Joaquino says, ‘We are not claiming to be the best. We just want to educate the public regarding Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. I would say that Filipino Plastic Surgeons are internationally competitive when it comes to these procedures”.

Tummy Tuck Plastic Surgery For Excess Skin Removal?
Do Need Excess Skin Removal of Excess Skin Fat?
Obesity has become a big problem over the past couple of years, and there are a lot of people out there who absolutely hate the way that they look. They want to do anything that would help them to lose weight; however, some people never have the motivation to exercise.
Often people are told by their doctors that if they do not lose their weight, they are literally going to die, and this can leave them absolutely scared witless. With no motivation to exercise or diet, many people take drastic action and go under the knife.
Many overweight people have surgery to help remove the fat from the body, and to help them to lose weight. This is all well and good, but sometimes there is an excess of skin left over which can leave the person feeling just as bad as they did before. After the surgery, the skin loses it elasticity and it no longer retains the same shape.
The changes in your skin can involve wrinkling, sagging, and even skin folds can appear as well as a few other problems with the skin. This can cause problems for the affected person, and another surgical procedure may be needed to cure this.
Removing Excess Skin Fat
When thinking of cosmetic surgery, you may only think of the obvious treatments such as a nose job or breast implants. However, there are a lot of cosmetic procedures that can be carried out, and there are ones available out there for people who need excess skin removed. Abdominoplasty is one of the surgical treatments that can help remove excess skin, and many people absolutely swear by it.
When people have had the surgery to remove fat from the stomach, the skin might have flapped over, or it could be left overhanging, and that is why they need this surgery done. This surgery helps to remove that excess skin, and the end result of this surgery is that the patient will experience a much smoother and thinner appearance to their stomach area, and that excess skin will be completely gone.
Abdominoplasty can really benefit women with stretched areas around the abdomen which are caused due to pregnancies. It is also good for older patients whose skin has lost its elasticity and who are slightly over weight. ![]()
There are two types of Abdominoplasty.
Mini-Abdominoplasty
This surgery is for people who have less excess skin, and the result is that the scar will be a lot shorter, and it will not be around the belly button.
Circumferential Abdominoplasty
Now this surgery is needed for people who have a lot of excess skin. The problem is that with this surgery, a bigger scar will be left which will extend from the front to the back.
Another surgical procedure that can be used is liposuction. Liposuction achieves results by removing any fat that is not needed from areas around the thighs, knees, buttocks, waist, hips, etc.
To be considered as a good candidate for this treatment, you are advised to have a realistic expectation about what this surgery can do for you. This surgery can help you with your appearance and self confidence, but it will not change your looks.
Any expectations you have, are better being mentioned to the surgeon before you actually have the surgery done. The surgeon will be able to discuss your expectations and tell you if they are realistic.
In your consultation, your surgeon will look at everything from your health to how much fat needs to be taken off etc. Then they will talk to you about the procedures that are best suited for you.
There may be special requirements leading up to the surgery and also, if you develop a skin condition or a cold, the surgery may have to be postponed until you have fully recovered.
After the surgery, the surgeon usually advises the patient to try and walk as soon as possible in order to stop the swelling, and to stop blood clots from occurring in your legs. It will take a week or two for you to start feeling better, but you can go back to work a few days after surgery if you are well enough.
So if you do suffer from Excess Skin Fat, there are options available to you through cosmetic surgery. Make sure that you find a qualified, reliable surgeon, and always talk through your expectations with them. You really do not want to be left disappointed after undergoing such a big procedure!

How A Tummy Tuck Procedure Tightens Your Belly
A tummy tuck is a procedure that tightens the stomach muscles and removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal region. Tummy tucks can also help to eliminate stretch marks.
The length of the surgery is dependent upon the extent of the procedure. Most tummy tuck surgeries take two to four hours. In a complete tummy tuck an incision is made from hipbone to hipbone, the underlying muscles are tightened and the skin is pulled down and excess skin is removed. If necessary, the belly button is repositioned. A partial or mini abdominoplasty is also an option for patients who want a less extensive procedure.
A tummy tuck is not intended to be used as a means to weight loss. Individuals considering abdominoplasty should be individuals in good health who simply want to address stubborn fatty pockets in the abdominal region.
Tummy tuck Atlanta is considered major surgery and your plastic surgeon should devote a considerable amount of time to patient education and communication to ensure that you, the patient are fully informed about the procedure.
In most cases, women considering a tummy tuck should not be considering additional pregnancies, or they may have the need for a second procedure to tighten the belly. In many cases, a tummy tuck does help rid of stretch marks
because it removes most of the "stretched out" skin below the navel.
During a tummy tuck, the doctor makes an incision that extends from hip to hip along the lower pubic area. A skilled plastic surgeon should make this incision so that the resulting scar is hidden under a bathing suit or by undergarments. The doctor then lifts the loose skin off of the abdominal wall, and tightens and repairs the loosened "rectus" muscles, the muscles that normally give the abdomen its strength, achieving the effect that an old fashioned girdle would.
The umbilicus or "belly button" is disconnected from the abdomen, and reattached after the loose skin is removed. The plastic surgeon not only tightens the abdominal wall, but also pulls up and tightens the thighs and the buttocks. Drains will be inserted into each side of your abdomen to remove excess fluid as it accumulates following surgery.
During Mini Abdominoplasty, the plastic surgeon makes an incision that generally spans only the width of the pubic area, and that is similar to a C section incision. In both procedures, patients with excessive fat in the hips and flanks may have liposuction in these areas to contour them, but not in the areas of the abdomen that are being stretched because this could cause damage to the blood circulation in those areas, leading to scarring or even skin loss.
The result of a tummy tuck is an abdomen that is tight and flat, a waist that is narrow and curvy and thighs and buttocks that are firmer.

Tummy Tuck Stories - Improve Abdominals
Tummy Tuck Procedure To Improve Abdominal Appearance
Tummy tuck surgery is a procedure geared toward improving abdominal appearance. It is frequently done after childbirth or major weight loss. As a result of skin and muscle stretching from pregnancies, several changes occur. The skin becomes lax and may hang. The rectus muscles separate in the midline and bulge. A tummy tuck addresses the excess skin and fat of the abdominal wall and separation of the underlying rectus muscles.
While many people desire liposuction alone, liposuction will not address the redundancy or the stretching of the muscles. In someone with poor skin tone, often seen after multiple pregnancies and weight loss, liposuction can result in a relative hanging of the skin.
With tummy tuck, the improvement in contour must be weighed against the scarring that occurs with the skin removal. In a limited or ‘mini’ tummy tuck, a shorter lower abdominal incision is used to tighten the muscle and remove a limited amount of lower abdominal skin. An extension of a C-Section scar is often used. This is particularly good when there is mostly lower abdominal skin excess
and muscle prominence below the umbilicus. It can be combined with liposuction to potentially improve the result.
In a standard tummy tuck, the lower abdominal scar is longer and the excess skin and fat from the lowermost abdomen up to the umbilical region is removed. A scar is made around the umbilicus as well. This typically achieves the most dramatic change, but the contour improvement must be weighed against scar length. Following tummy tuck, the abdominal wall is usually flatter when viewed from the side. However, when viewed from the front, an hourglass figure, with a notably narrowed waist is not typically seen.
![]()
A variety of incisions have been described. Most scars are located centrally near the edge of the pubic hair line. Depending upon individual preferred style of bathing wear, a higher French cut or a lower transverse scar may be selected for outer scar position. A bathing suit outline may be marked at the time of surgical planning and the incision designed accordingly. It is important that the patient discuss her preferences with her surgeon.
After very major weight loss, a lower body lift may be considered. This procedure involves a circumferential scar of the trunk. However, the goals of a tummy tuck are usually accomplished, but in addition, there is some lifting of the outer thighs and buttocks. The scar that is longer than the tummy tuck scar, is traded for an improvement in the drooping lower soft tissues.
A medial thigh lift is another body contouring procedure that addresses hanging skin and fat of the inner thighs. It is most appropriate when there has been weight loss resulting in hanging skin and in older individuals who have poor skin tone. In those people, liposuction alone could give the appearance of greater hanging of the skin. Therefore, liposuction in combination with inner thigh lift may give the best contour. Dr. Orringer prefers to combine ultrasound assisted liposuction with small cannula traditional liposuction in removing the excess fat of the thighs, abdomen, hip rolls and flanks.
For an optimally long-lasting result, it is suggested that the patient be on a diet and exercise program that will lessen the likelihood of significant weight gain following surgery. With stable weight and a fit lifestyle, contour improvement can be seen for many years. At the time of tummy tuck, accompanying procedures such as breast lift, augmentation or liposuction may be considered.

Tummy Tuck Surgery After Pregnancy Is It The Answer?
Provides relative information about tummy tucks in conjunction to pregnancies.
Getting your body back to normal after a pregnancy can be a tricky business. When it comes to stretch marks and loose skin, there is no real effective method
of treatment other than the surgical option of an abdominoplasty, a.k.a. a tummy tuck. Your skin is capable of expanding to accommodate a gradual weight gain, but when you are pregnant, it must expand relatively quickly to accommodate the growth of the baby. Consequently, the deeper layers of skin may tear forming thin white lines across your stomach. You may become frustrated (to say the least), and many women experience a big blow to their self esteem. However, a tummy tuck can remove most stretch marks and tighten any loose skin. In fact, deciding to go for a tummy-tuck seems a reasonable course of action considering that 130, 000 tummy tucks were performed in the United States in 2005.
Before jumping onto the tummy tuck train, some important issues should be considered. A tummy tuck requires invasive surgery; therefore information on the matter should be gathered in order to determine whether or not it will truly benefit your life.
Tummy tucks can leave permanent scars
The surgery will leave a scar that runs from hip to hip, unless you have decided on a mini-tuck, in which case the scar will be about 6 inches long. A scar can take up to 9 months to fade, and until then, it will actually appear to worsen. However, the incision is made along natural creases in your skin, and is easily covered by underwear and bikinis.
Tummy tucks can cause problems with future pregnancies
![]()
Most surgeons will advise their patients to wait until after their last pregnancy before undergoing abdominal plastic surgery. The body’s expansion during a pregnancy can cause the stomach muscles to separate again; so if you are planning more than one child, it is best to put the tummy tuck on hold.
Tummy tucks are not magical
If you are unhappy with the look of your body, a tummy tuck can be a step in helping y
ou to achieve your ideal figure. However, because of its highly invasive nature, you must be prepared to take good care of your brand new tummy. The recovery time can take up to 3 weeks. You must protect your stomach from the sun before going under the knife. Smokers will need to put away their lighters for 2 weeks before and after the surgery. Exercise can help speed up the healing process (although not immediately after the surgery). A healthy diet is important as well, but nothing too severe as your body needs the appropriate nutrition in order to properly heal.
Do some research
It is important to choose a surgeon who is properly qualified. Not only must he/she be board certified, but also certified by a reputable board. Start by looking
into the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Also verify that your surgeon is qualified to perform several kinds of abdominal plastic surgery and not just tummy tucks.
If a full traditional tummy tuck seems too daunting, and/or too expensive, you could opt for a mini-tummy tuck. The surgery is less invasive, recovery time is shorter, and the scar is smaller. It is worth a consideration if you are unhappy with the post-pregnant state of your body.

Tummy Tucks and Pregnancies
Tummy tucks can cause problems with future pregnancies. Most surgeons will advise their patients to wait until after their last pregnancy before undergoing abdominal plastic surgery.
Which Plastic Surgery Procedure
Abdominoplasty procedures are appropriate for patients with extra skin on their abdomen or for women who have developed loose stomach muscles after pregnancy. Abdominoplasty also known as a tummy tuck can remove loose skin.
Pregnancy After A Tummy Tuck
While it is certainly possible to become pregnant, many doctors advise against having another child after you have had the procedure. The pregnancy could cause you to have to have the tummy tuck surgery again, to repair the damage.

Abdominoplasty, Is A Tummy Tuck Proceedure Safe?
Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery done on the abdomen in order to remove excess fat and skin in the area.
Abdominoplasty, also referred to as ‘tummy tuck’, is a surgical procedure which is done in order to firm up the abdomen. During the procedure the surgeon removes the excessive skin as well as fat in the abdominal region, thereby tightening fascia and muscles of the abdominal wall. In most cases, abdominoplasty is opted for by women after pregnancy, who end up with loose tissues on their abdomen or those who undergo substantial weight loss who end up with sagging skin.
When to Opt for Abdominoplasty
Those who have any of the conditions given below could opt for abdominoplasty:
- Sagging or excessive skin on the abdomen.
- If the abdomen is protruding and is not in proportion with the rest of the body.
- Weakened or separated muscles in the abdomen.
- Excessive fatty tissue concentrated in the abdomen.
However, before actually undergoing the procedure, the doctor has to be told whether there are any future plans of pregnancy or whether there is any plan of losing a considerable amount of weight. Also, the results of the abdominoplasty may be limited if there is any scarring left over from a previous surgery in the abdomen. Plus, the surgeon will conduct a thorough examination to take into consideration the condition of the abdominal muscles and the extent of the excessive skin.
These factors will determine exactly which procedure will be required for individual cases.
What Exactly is Involved in the Abdominoplasty Procedure?
A full or complete abdominoplasty procedure involves the following:
- The surgeon makes an incision just above of the pubic region, stretching from one hip to the other.
- A second incision is made to detach the navel from the skin surrounding it.
- Then, the skin is separated from the abdominal wall, so that the fascia and muscles that need to be tightened are revealed.
- Sutures are used in order to tighten the fascia and muscles.
- The excess fat and skin are removed, thereby tightening the area, and then it is closed.
- A new hole is made through which the belly button stalk is brought out and then sutured in the new place on the abdomen.
- Usually, liposuction is also used in order to smoothen the abdominal area.
- Then, a dressing is applied on the wound, and sometimes also a compression garment. Plus, there is a drainage provided for excess fluid to drain out from the site.
As is apparent, considerable amounts of skin and fat in the abdomen below the navel are removed via the abdominoplasty procedure, which results in contouring both the abdomen as well as the thoracic region. In contrast to the effects of just liposuction alone, since abdominoplasty involves the excision of a large amount of fat and skin, it helps greatly in smoothening and tightening the abdomen following pregnancy, weight gain, or even rapid growth. This results in improving the structural shape of the body considerably.
Apart from a full abdominoplasty procedure there are also other procedures like partial abdominoplasty, extended abdominoplasty, and a combination of the procedures.
Recovering form Abdominoplasty
- Recovery is largely dependent on factors like the surgical technique used and the extent of the problem that has been treated. Usually, it takes about 1-4 weeks.
- Patients are normally advised to refrain from heavy activity during the recovery time.
- There may be discomfort and bruising initially.
- An abdominal garment used for binding or compressing can help to minimize bruising and swelling as well as support the tissues that have been repaired.
- Complete recovery takes about 3 to 6 months, with the scars continuing to fade thereafter.

Tummy Tuck to the Rescue
The tummy tuck is an ideal solution for stubborn surplus fat that is unresponsive to exercise and a controlled diet. Listed below are two examples of people who can benefit from the tummy tuck procedure:
Those Who Have Had a Pregnancy
Many women who have had one or more deliveries feel unhappy because of the loss of their pre-pregnancy shape. Pregnancy, though an otherwise wonderful experience, adversely affects skin elasticity and muscle tone and causes stretch marks. A tummy tuck would correct sagging skin and tighten the stretched areas, thereby restoring the patient’s body contour.
Those Who Have Lost a Lot of Weight
The tummy tuck can correct the flaccidity that follows the loss of a substantial amount of weight. An abdominoplasty can also correct excess skin and abdominal roundness caused by a genetic predisposition, or natural aging.
Do Note
The tummy tuck should not be considered as a procedure for losing weight. Candidates for the treatment are either already their normal weight or quite close to it. Further, it is important that the patient discusses not just the advantages and cost but also the side effects and risks of the procedure with the concerned practitioner before deciding to go for it. Nevertheless, it can’t be denied that the tummy tuck is a wonderful way to get one step closer to that "to die for" figure.
